The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called for deeper Pan-African cooperation to bolster democracy, political stability, and sustainable development across the continent.
Addressing the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire during its First Ordinary Session for 2025, Speaker Bagbin urged African lawmakers to unite in addressing key challenges, including terrorism, regional conflicts, and climate change. His remarks emphasized the critical role of legislative collaboration in driving the continent’s progress.
“We must commit to solidarity and collective action under the ideals of Pan-Africanism to ensure peace, stability, and sustainable development for our people,” Speaker Bagbin said.
The session, hosted by the President of the Ivorian National Assembly, H.E. Adama Bictogo, brought together speakers from Senegal, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, and the ECOWAS Parliament. The gathering highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering African unity.
In his address, Speaker Bagbin called for a unified front to tackle the pressing issues facing West Africa, particularly the growing threat of terrorism and the need for robust solutions to climate-related challenges. He stressed that African parliaments must play an active role in crafting policies that address these concerns.
The Ghanaian delegation, led by Speaker Bagbin, included his wife, Madam Linda Ofosuah Oboh, Members of Parliament Hon. Habib Iddrisu, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Hon. Dr. Sebastian Sandaare, and parliamentary staff.
The event served as a platform for African leaders to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening regional ties and advancing the vision of a united, stable, and prosperous Africa.
