Tekpetey Michael a Tutor at Abuakwa State College (ABUSCO) has been crowned overall best teacher in the maiden Ghana Education Service Outstanding Achievement Awards held in Koforidua.
The award ceremony saw 405 entries which 100 Shortlisted, but 66 teaching and non-teaching staff honored with citations, plaques, refrigerators, flat screen TV sets , gas cylinders, cooking stoves among others.
Tekpetey Michael, who teaches Economics and has 15 years of experience, received a brand-new saloon car donated by Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Abuakwa North Constituency.
The awards ceremony, themed “Inspiring Change: Recovery Begins with Teachers,” recognized 66 teaching and non-teaching staff out of 405 entries.
The categories covered various educational roles and included accolades for schools in hard-to-reach areas, drivers, caterers, administrative staff among others.
Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Ivy Asantewa Owusu,commende teachers for their professionalism and creativity in teaching amidst challenges.
Deputy Minister of Education John Ntim Fordjour praised Ghanaian teachers for their global competence.
He said Ghanaian teachers are among the best in the world. He assured government continues support to the profession.
Former Vice Chancellor of UCC Professor Emmanuel Adow Obeng, chairman of the event, stated the broader impact of empowering teachers on national development.
