The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the arrest of two watchmen at the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School over an alleged sexual assault involving a student.
In a statement issued on August 20, 2026, the GES said the two suspects had been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The Service said the incident allegedly involved a student who was receiving medical attention at the time and had reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident.
According to the GES, the alleged assault occurred during the period when the student was receiving medical attention.
As an immediate administrative measure, school management has interdicted the two watchmen with immediate effect, pending the outcome of investigations.
The GES said thorough investigations into the matter are ongoing and that appropriate sanctions would be applied in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana if the allegations are established.
Management has also directed staff of the Service to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students.
The Service warned that it would not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students in schools.
The GES assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter was being treated with the seriousness it deserved.
The Service has not disclosed the identity of the student, in line with the need to protect the privacy and dignity of an alleged victim of sexual abuse.
The two watchmen are yet to be proven guilty, and the allegations remain subject to police investigations and due process.
