A two-year-old boy pupil Obrempong Offei Adjei Newman, lost his life after being knocked down by a truck at Mamfe Akuapem near the old Electoral Commission office.
The suspect driver, Figgis Amankwah, 35, who was driving a Hyundai Gold truck with registration number GS 5262-23, reported the incident to the Mamfe Police.
The truck, loaded with crates of mangoes, was traveling from Accra to Somanya when the accident occurred around 4:20 PM.
According to police investigations, the child had just alighted from a taxi after school and attempted to cross the road to meet his mother on the opposite side.
The driver, descending a hill at the time, knocked down the boy.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong Akuapem but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The child’s body has been deposited at the hospital morgue, awaiting an autopsy.
The Hyundai Gold truck has been impounded, and officials from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will examine it.
The suspect driver has been detained to assist with further investigations being handled by Chief Inspector Nyalebgedzi Edem Korbla of the Mamfe Police.
