Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, have been drawn in Group A for the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) WAFU B qualifiers, set to take place next month.
Led by head coach Desmond Ofei, the Black Satellites will face Togo, Benin, and Niger in their group. Meanwhile, Group B features Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso.
The tournament will be hosted in Togo from October 17 to 31, 2024, with the Black Satellites eager to secure a spot in the 2025 U-20 AFCON. Ghana has not participated in the competition since their triumph in 2021 under coach Karim Zito. The team missed the previous edition in 2023, which was won by Senegal.
As four-time U-20 AFCON champions, Ghana is determined to return to the continental stage and compete for a place in the 2025 FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup. Earlier this year, the Black Satellites secured a significant victory by defeating Uganda to win gold at the 2023 African Games held in Ghana.
