The Management of the University for Development Studies (UDS), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, has presented the trophy the University won at the just ended FISU World Universities Football Championship held in China, to the Paramount Chief of the Sagnarigu Traditional Area, Naa Ambassador Yakubu Abdulai.
The visit, marked by smiles, drumming, and cultural warmth, brought together the victorious UDS football team, their technical handlers, and senior members of staff.
Speaking at the Sagnarigu Palace in Tamale, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan explained that the visit was both symbolic and celebratory. “We came home to share this joy with our landlord,” the Vice-Chancellor said, smiling. “Your blessings and goodwill have followed us across borders, and today, we return with evidence that your investment in UDS is yielding global fruits.”

The Tamale Campus of UDS sits proudly within the Sagnarigu Traditional Area, a relationship many have described as “a bond of purpose and progress.”
The Vice-Chancellor presented the trophy and a replica and souvenirs to the Paramount Chief.
Team Captain Mohammed Asigre Sulemana introduced his teammates and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the traditional authorities. “Your prayers and encouragement carried us through every challenge,” he said. “We played for Ghana, for Tamale, and for you.”
In his response, Naa Ambassador Yakubu Abdulai could not hide his delight. Beaming with pride, he extended warm congratulations to the team and the University’s leadership.
“You have brought glory not only to Sagnarigu but to the entire African continent,” he declared. “UDS has placed Tamale on the world map, and in the brightest of lights.”
Naa Ambassador Yakubu Abdulai presented a bull and a cash amount ot GHC2,000 to the team.
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University community thanked the Sagnar Naa for his kind gesture.
The moment captured more than victory, it reflected unity, pride, and the enduring bond between tradition and academic excellence.
