The Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has stepped up efforts to resolve the persistent water crisis in Paga following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.
The Minister on Monday, August 24, 2026, engaged the head office of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) in Accra to push for urgent action to restore reliable potable water supply to Paga and surrounding communities in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
President John Dramani Mahama, during his recent Accounting to the People Tour of the Upper East Region, directed the CWSA to work with the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to find a lasting solution to the water supply challenges confronting the area.
The Regional Minister’s engagement was aimed at ensuring that the presidential directive translates into concrete action, with emphasis on coordinated efforts between the CWSA and GWCL.
Following the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of the CWSA directed the Agency’s Upper East Regional Director to travel to Paga to assess the situation and engage relevant stakeholders.
The assessment is expected to establish the specific challenges affecting water supply in the area and guide an immediate intervention by the CWSA and GWCL.
The development comes as residents of Paga continue to grapple with persistent water supply challenges, making the implementation of the President’s directive an urgent priority.
