The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG)-Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) chapter has announced the results of its voting process regarding industrial action.

In a landslide decision, 71.59% of members voted in favor of initiating industrial action to demand a nationwide ban on mining and prospecting for minerals in forest reserves, farmlands, and rivers.

Voting Results:
●YES: 446 votes (71.59%)

●NO: 177 votes (28.41%)

The outcome clearly indicates that the majority of UTAG-KNUST members support taking industrial action which comes off October 10th.

This decision was made to pressure the government to enforce a nationwide ban on mining and prospecting in environmentally sensitive areas.

Professor Patrick Addo-Fordjour, BIEC Chair of UTAG-KNUST, expressed gratitude to all members who participated in this important decision-making process.

This vote demonstrates the association’s commitment to advocating for policies that protect Ghana’s natural resources and environment.

This development follows a similar decision by the University of Health Allied Sciences (UHAS) division of UTAG, which also voted in support of the Organised Labour strike starting October 10.
