The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, hosted a delegation from the World Bank to discuss the Kumasi Urban Mobility & Accessibility Project (KUMAP), a transformative initiative aimed at improving urban transportation in Kumasi.

KUMAP, financed by the World Bank, seeks to enhance the city’s transport system through the implementation of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
The project is designed to reduce congestion, improve efficiency, and promote sustainable urban mobility in Ghana’s second-largest city.

The initiative will focus on key corridors with high commuter demand, particularly the Abuakwa to Kejetia and Kejetia to Ejisu routes.
These areas have been identified as suitable for the BRT system due to their infrastructure readiness and strategic importance in Kumasi’s transport network.
Dr. Amoakohene expressed gratitude to the World Bank representatives, including Haileyesus Adamtei, Senior Transport Specialist, and Anne-Cecile Souhaid, Sector Director for West and Central Africa, for their commitment and technical expertise in supporting Kumasi’s urban mobility goals.
The project aligns with the government’s broader agenda to modernize urban transportation, ease traffic congestion, and create an environmentally friendly transport system in Kumasi.
With World Bank backing, KUMAP is expected to bring lasting improvements to the daily commute of thousands of residents while fostering economic growth and sustainability in the region.
