The Eastern Regional Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress,NDC, has extend profound gratitude to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and Vice-President,Prof.Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman for nominating Mrs Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey as Eastern Regional Minister designate.
A statement signed by Shirley Naana Ampem, Eastern Regional Women’s Organizer,stated that the nomination is “a demonstration of the commitment of the National Democratic Congress to enhancing the participation of women in politics and an extension of profound goals of bridging gender inequality under the Affirmative Action Act, 2024.I am certain that this will go a long-way to prove to Africa and the world at large that Ghana is a beacon of excellence in promoting a true and equipped egalitarian society”.
Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey was among a list of 10 individuals nominated by the President on Tuesday as Regional Ministers designate to Parliament for vetting and approval.
Rita Awatey is a distinguished leader with a wealth of experience in governance, education, and community development.
She holds an MPhil in Leadership from the University of Professional Studies, Accra and has an impressive track record as a local governance practitioner, having served as Presiding Member of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly and Deputy Eastern Regional Women’s Organiser of the NDC.
She is also a seasoned educator and advocate for women’s empowerment, with a commitment to advancing local development and inclusive governance.
She is currently pursing a PhD in Migration at the University of Ghana.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Krobo bloc made up of Upper,Lower and Yilo Krobo constituencies have in a joint statement also expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the President for her nomination.
“This decision is a testament to your
commitment to empowering capable leaders and promoting development in the Eastern Region.Mrs. Awatey’s appointment is a welcome news to us, and we are confident that her expertise and experience will greatly benefit the region. We believe that her leadership will help drive growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the overall well-being of our people”.
The statement concluded with assurance that “We look forward to working closely with Mrs. Awatey to ensure the successful implementation of our party’s policies and programs in the Eastern Region” .
