Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to settling outstanding debts with road contractors.
The Minister noted that despite inheriting a substantial financial burden from the previous administration, the government is determined to complete all stalled road projects across the country.
Speaking after a comprehensive inspection of abandoned projects in Sunyani and Sunyani West Municipalities, Agbodza emphasized President John Dramani Mahama’s resolve to ensure contractors receive their due payments, enabling them to resume work.
“We have had productive discussions with several contractors, and we expect them to mobilize and return to site immediately,” he noted.
Agbodza expressed deep concern over the state of several projects, notably the Sunyani outer ring road (Alaska road), which was initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but left unfinished.
He urged contractors working on this project to mobilize and resume work within three days.
“We are working diligently to compensate dedicated road contractors who have continued to work despite financial challenges,” Agbodza assured, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting these critical stakeholders in the sector
The minister’s visit was accompanied by key figures including Dickson Kyere Duah, MP for Berekum West; Madam Amankwaa Yeboah Millicent, MP for Sunyani West; and Seid Mubarak, MP for Sunyani East. Also present were Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, and urban road engineers.
