The Vice President of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has officially returned to the country following a period of medical leave abroad.
Her arrival marks the successful conclusion of a three-week health break, during which she received specialized care on the advice of her physicians.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang embarked on her medical leave on April 7, 2025, after her medical team recommended a period of rest and focused treatment to address recent health concerns.
Initially, she received care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre before proceeding abroad for further medical attention.
During her absence, the nation’s leadership and citizens closely followed updates on her health.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, while on an official engagement in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 6, reassured Ghanaians that the Vice President was recuperating well and would soon return to her official duties.
President John Dramani Mahama addressed public concerns regarding the Vice President’s health at a recent ThankYouTour event in the Greater Accra Region on May 16.
He assured citizens that Professor Opoku-Agyemang was on the mend and would be back in the country before the end of the week.
“The Vice President is doing well and will be joining us very soon,” President Mahama told attendees. “We look forward to her return and continued service to the nation.”
Upon her return, Professor Opoku-Agyemang is expected to resume her official responsibilities.
Her recovery and return have been met with widespread support and well-wishes from across the political spectrum and the general public.
