The Asawase Zongo Palace has called for calm and cooperation from the public following the assassination of the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region, Chief Abdul‑Malik Azenbe, in Asawase on the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Office of the Asawase Zongo Community Chief, under the leadership of the Sarkin Zango Palace, expressed deep sorrow over the killing and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community, and all Zongo residents affected by the tragedy.
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants mercy to the departed soul and bestows comfort and strength upon his family and community in this time of grief,” the statement read.
The palace urged the Zongo community and the general public to remain calm and peaceful, and to support ongoing investigations by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
Security agencies were also urged to carry out their duties with professionalism, diligence, and urgency to bring the perpetrators to justice and reassure the public of their safety.
According to the statement, swift interventions have already been made by key leaders, including the Member of Parliament for Asawase and Minister of Interior and National Security, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, and the Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong, Hon. Ben Abdallah Alhassane, to ensure justice is served without compromising public peace.
The Asawase Zongo Palace further appealed to all Zongo residents and settlers across Kumasi and the Ashanti Region to uphold peace, shun violence, and heed the wise counsel of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who continues to promote peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.
“Let us not allow this tragedy to sow seeds of division or unrest. The strength of our community lies in unity, discipline, and adherence to the teachings of peace in Islam and the values of mutual respect and tolerance,” the statement emphasized.
