The National Democratic Congreaa (NDC) holds parliamentary primary Monday August 4,202 to elect parliamentary candidate for the September 2,byelection following the passing of the Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Over one thousand delegates from 119 branches of the party plus constituency executives are expected to vote.
Three aspirants are contesting for the slot.
Balloting results saw Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo picking the number one spot, followed by Erasmus Koney Ali popularly known as Asanka in the second position, and former MP Henry Boakye Yiadom, also known as Okoyo, in the third.
Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo ,counsel for the former MP Henry Bokye Yiadom in 2024 election dispute is optimistic of winning but says he will rally behind any other person who emerges as winner.
Erasmus Koney Ali alias Asanka believes his track record as Assembly member, presiding member and constituency youth organizer , as well as his involvement in various developmental projects including the construction of mosque, classroom block, donation of desks, construction of road,and logistics for clinic among others makes him the ideal candidate for the NDC to win the seat.
Henry Boakye Yiadom, on his part, wants an opportunity to continue developmental projects he started as MP during his tenure between 2021 to 2025.
The Akwatia by-election is scheduled for September 2, 2025 by the Electoral Commission.
