President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York, where he is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), which opens on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
President Mahama is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Thursday, September 25.
In his role as the African Union’s champion for financial institutions, he will also host two major side events and participate in bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, heads of state, and global leaders, including the President of the Rockefeller Foundation.
As part of his itinerary, the former president will engage with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and make a historic visit to NASDAQ, where he is expected to ring the closing bell.
The First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, who is part of the delegation, will attend side events organized by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).
She is also billed to deliver the keynote address at a World Vision International prayer service dedicated to children worldwide.
The Ghanaian delegation includes Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, and several ministers of state, among them Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Ghana Investment Promotion Centre CEO Simon Madjie.
The delegation is expected to return to Ghana on September 30, 2025.
