Justin Frimpong Kodua, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that if he possessed the authority, he would suspend a majority of party members.
In an interview with Net2 TV monitored by Kumasimail, Kodua spoke about his ongoing petition against Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman of the party.
He made it clear that no individual within the party is more important than the party itself.
He stated, “It is not that we fear anyone in the party or that some people are more important than others. If you are a regional chairman, understand that you are a regional chairman and not bigger than the party.”
Kodua reminded that there was a time when even the national chairman and secretary of the party were suspended and sent home, questioning how anyone could now dictate terms to the party.
He further explained that although his role as General Secretary does not include the power to suspend members, if such powers were granted to him by the party’s constitution, many would be suspended.
Kodua emphasized, “If the party were helping me and had given me the power as General Secretary to suspend people, by now thousands would have been removed from the party.
“But the power is not there. The constitution of our party stipulates that, as I am saying, if I had the power to operate as an officer of the party, coordinate activities, and if it added that I also have the power to suspend people, I would not be here writing to the disciplinary committee,” he explained.
He stressed that when disciplinary issues arise, he forwards them to the appropriate governing body within the party for review and action.
“Sometimes, people need to understand that the powers are not in my hands,” Kodua added.
