Irene Naa Torshie Addo, a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, is causing political shocks among their opponents as Mrs. Samira Bawumia, wife of flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia suspends her campaign tour in the region following Naa Torshie’s presence.
On Monday, November 24, a statement purportedly from the NPP Ashanti Regional Constituency Chairmen expressed concern over the ‘unexpected’ arrival of Naa Torshie in the region.
According to the statement, Madam Naa Torshie and the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team’s presence is seen as an attempt to create chaos and confusion in the electoral campaign process.
The group further revealed that they were forced to suspend Hajia Samira Bawumia’s well-executed and carefully planned campaign tour following Naa Torshie presence in the region.
“We are angered by the fact that Hajia Samira Bawumia had to suspend her campaign to avoid any unforeseen confrontation or disorder. It is unfortunate that a well-planned and sanctioned tour has been disrupted in this manner,” the statement said.
Comprising 41 out of the 47 Constituency Chairmen in the Ashanti region, the group described Naa Torsie’s presence as so significant that they demanded answers to several questions.
They asked, “Why would Hon. Naa Torshie deliberately choose dates that directly clash with H.E. Hajia Samira’s tour, when party rules clearly prohibit such conduct? Why target the Ashanti Region at a time when another major campaign delegation is present?”
The ‘powerful’ group reiterated their dissatisfaction with Naa Torshie’s presence and rhetorically questioned why she did not wait until Hajia Samira Bawumia completed her tour.
The chairmen suggested alternative options, noting, “Hon. Naa Torshie could have easily chosen to tour any other region or, at the very least, exercised courtesy by waiting until H.E. Hajia Samira concluded her activities on Wednesday.”
In light of what term as ‘disruption’, the Ashanti Regional Constituency Chairmen have called on the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Regional Executive Committee (REC) to swiftly investigate the incidents.
They urged that appropriate measures be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future, emphasizing that strict adherence to campaign protocols is vital to preserving party unity and discipline.
