Officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) reportedly attempted to arrest the Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The reported incident is said to be connected to investigations involving the Ghana Jollof TikTok account. Sources familiar with the matter claimed that the MP had failed to honour invitations from EOCO to assist with the investigations.
The sources, however, disputed that claim, saying Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah had not received any formal invitation from the anti-graft agency.
They further alleged that the reported attempt to arrest the MP was linked to his public defence of Salomey Baffoe, who has been alleged to be an accomplice of the operator of the Ghana Jollof TikTok account. These allegations have not been independently established.
Videos seen by Kumasi Mail purportedly show a woman identifying herself as an EOCO officer asking the MP to accompany her to the agency’s office.
The MP reportedly declined the request before leaving the premises in his Toyota V8 vehicle. The videos also appear to show EOCO officials following the vehicle as it drove away.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. It has not been independently established whether EOCO formally invited the MP, whether an arrest warrant or other legal authority existed, or the precise basis for the reported attempt to take him into custody.
EOCO had not publicly commented on the reported incident as of the time of publication.
