Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has engaged Ghana’s development partners and heads of government departments and agencies to discuss measures to strengthen local governance and decentralisation.
The engagement brought together representatives of development partners, including the European Union and the World Bank, for discussions on ongoing decentralisation initiatives and ways to improve their implementation.
According to Mr Ayariga, the meeting provided an opportunity to assess challenges affecting the implementation of local governance programmes and explore areas where increased collaboration and technical support could achieve greater impact.

Key areas discussed included local revenue mobilisation, improved service delivery, environmental sanitation, digital transformation and local economic development.
The minister said stronger partnerships and effective coordination among government institutions and development partners were essential to advancing Ghana’s decentralisation agenda.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with development partners and relevant institutions to strengthen local governance and promote sustainable and inclusive development across communities.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the capacity and effectiveness of local governance institutions and ensure that development initiatives respond more effectively to the needs of communities.
