The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) will train 500 girls in coding in 2027, following the successful pilot of the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI) that equipped 150 girls across the Ashanti, Bono East and Northern Regions.
GIFEC Administrator, Mr. Sofo Tanko Rashid-Computer, announced the expansion at the national climax of the AGCCI programme in Kumasi on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Implemented in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the initiative equips girls aged 14 and above with skills in coding, digital literacy, leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Rashid-Computer said the lessons from the pilot would guide the expansion of the programme to reach more girls nationwide, with the 500-beneficiary target reflecting GIFEC’s commitment to advancing digital inclusion and preparing young women for the digital economy.
He urged the beneficiaries to use social media beyond entertainment by showcasing their skills, promoting their innovations and creating opportunities for themselves.

He encouraged the girls to use digital platforms for learning, networking, entrepreneurship and personal development.
The climax was attended by the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso and a representative of the Ashanti Regional Minister.
The dignitaries urged the beneficiaries to put their newly acquired skills to practical use and use their knowledge to positively influence their peers and communities.
The 2026 pilot was delivered by 22 GIFEC facilitators who underwent Training of Trainers conducted by ITU in collaboration with Qualcomm in June 2026.
