Patrick Kwame Atuah, an aspirant for the Ashanti Regional Communications Director position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has successfully picked nomination forms to contest the role, a move that follows incumbent Lawyer Abass Nurudeen’s decision not to seek re-election.
Atuah’s filing marks a key step in the party’s ongoing 2026 internal electoral process, which officially opened nominations for regional executive positions on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Atuah’s bid and political context
Atuah, described within party circles as an efficient and strategic communications operative, has positioned himself as a natural successor to Nurudeen, who currently serves as CEO of the Social Investment Fund (SIF) and has indicated the regional communications role requires physical presence in Ashanti.
In recent interviews, Atuah said he is “ready and convinced” to contest, adding that he intends to build on the foundation laid under Nurudeen’s tenure while addressing perceived shortfalls.
His declaration comes amid a broader reorganisation of the NDC’s regional apparatus ahead of the 2028 general elections, with several aspirants already emerging for key regional posts.
NDC’s 2026 regional election timetable and rules
The NDC’s 2026 internal elections are being conducted under a published timetable released in August 2026 by the party’s Functional Executive Committee and signed by Deputy General Secretary Barbara Serwaa Asamoah.

For regional executive positions, the schedule is as follows:
• Opening of nominations: October 6–7, 2026
• Filing of nominations: October 14–15, 2026
• Vetting: October 16–17, 2026
• Appeals: October 19–20, 2026
• Regional Youth and Women Conference: November 13, 2026
• Regional elections: November 14–15, 2026
All nomination-related payments must be made strictly through the party’s online portal, forms.ghanandc.com, using Mobile Money, Visa or MasterCard; bank payments and drafts are not accepted.
Aspirants, proposers, seconders and endorsers must be members in good standing with all dues settled via 92025# or ndc.org.gh/dues.
What to expect next
Having picked his forms, Atuah is expected to file his completed nomination documents during the October 14–15 filing window, after which vetting and appeals processes will determine the final list of candidates before balloting in mid-November.
Party statements have urged all participants to observe discipline and respect for democratic values throughout the exercise to ensure a transparent and peaceful process.
If elected, Atuah would lead the NDC’s communications machinery in the Ashanti Region, a critical battleground where effective messaging and grassroots coordination are seen as vital to the party’s 2028 prospects
