The Ghana Police Service has arrested 192 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting suspected drug peddlers and other criminal activities across parts of the country.

The operations, conducted by the IGP Special Operations Team between October 2 and 29, also led to the recovery of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, firearms, ammunition and other exhibits.

The biggest haul came at Teshie on October 22, where 102 suspects, including nine females, were arrested in a single operation.

Police recovered quantities of compressed dried substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, seven bottles of nitrous oxide and a bottle of Benylin with Codeine. Eight suspects identified as key narcotics peddlers were subsequently handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigations.

Another major operation at Lapaz and Chantan on October 15 resulted in the arrest of 41 suspects, comprising 35 males and six females. Quantities of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances were also seized for evidential and forensic examination.

At Okaishie Drug Lane, eight suspects were arrested on October 9, with police recovering suspected narcotic and unregulated pharmaceutical products, including Tramadol, Rohypnol and codeine-containing substances.

Further operations in New Town, Dansoman, Weija, Tudu, James Town and Odawna led to additional arrests and the recovery of suspected narcotics, pharmaceutical products, processing equipment and other exhibits.

At Odawna, a 52-year-old businessman, Richard Polo, was arrested following surveillance operations. Police said quantities of substances suspected to be cocaine and other narcotics were recovered from his hideout.

The crackdown extended to Fadama and Shukura on October 28 and 29, where two suspects, identified as Douglas Kobby, 47, and Habib Yakubu, were arrested.

Items seized included four parcels of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, seven cartridges, a pump-action magazine, a dagger and a machete.

In a separate operation at Alabonu in Asutuare, three suspected members of a vigilante group were arrested and handed over to the Tema Regional Police Command for further investigations.

The Special Operations Team also extended its operations to the Eastern Region, arresting four suspects and recovering a pump-action shotgun, ammunition and substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Tramadol.

The Police said all arrested suspects remain in custody assisting investigations, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other persons linked to the suspected criminal activities.
