The new Cocoabod price will officially be announced on 10th September 2024, according to the Chief Executive (CEO) of Ghana COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo.
Speaking at a meeting with cocoa farmer associations from the 70 cocoa-growing districts across the country in Kumasi on Friday, 6th September 2024, Mr. Aidoo explained that the delay in announcing the new season was due to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s foreign travel schedule.
“We sent our letter to the President a bit late to have him open the new season on the 1st of September. Unfortunately, the President’s prior commitments made it impossible. He is currently out of the country but will return this weekend. I assure you that the President will announce the new cocoa price next Tuesday, and I am confident it will be satisfactory to you, the farmers,” he said.
Mr. Aidoo also urged the farmers to trust the management of COCOBOD, assuring them that the government remains committed to protecting the interests of cocoa farmers.
Meanwhile, several farmers who spoke to Kumasimail.com stated that any price below six thousand Cedis (GHC 6000) per bag would not be satisfactory. They also called on the government to intensify efforts to combat illegal mining, known as “galamsey,” which continues to pose a threat to Ghana’s cocoa sector.
