Over 1,000 members and supporters of the 2020 Independent Parliamentary Candidate and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin South Constituency of the Central Region have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and pledged their allegiance to NPP’s parliamentry candidate Ntim Fordjour.
According to them, since John Dramani Mahama has not clarified his stance on the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, they are joining the NPP out of fear that he may cancel the program.
Among the defectors are the former Independent Candidate’s Campaign Manager, Emmanuel Asamoah Boahen, and Emmanuel Tamakole, the former Independent Campaign Coordinator.
Emmanuel Tamakole, the former Independent Campaign Coordinator, stated that Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has proven his ability to deliver in his second term, which is why they are supporting him.
“We have seen the good works of Rev. John Ntim Fordjour and can witness the developmental projects he has brought to Assin South. The unemployment rate in Assin South has decreased with the help of Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, which is why we are supporting him to bring more projects to Assin South Constituency,” they local journalist Yaw Boagyan in an interview.
Some of the defectors also mentioned that they initially thought joining the independent candidate and the NDC was the right choice, but they have realized that nothing positive would come from it. They now believe that Hon. John Ntim Fordjour is the best candidate for Assin South.
“ Ntim Fordjour has shown that he genuinely cares about the welfare of the people. He has improved road networks in Assin South, helped people secure appointment letters, improved the educational sector in the constituency, and many other things. We are going to vote for him on December 7th so he can continue the good work to help Assin South develop.”
