The Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice has formally notified the High Court in Accra that the first accused person in the criminal case involving businessman and political figure Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has requested the commencement of plea negotiations.
According to a court document filed on June 11, 2026, and titled “Notification of Commencement of Plea Negotiation,” lawyers for Bernard Antwi-Boasiako submitted a request to the Attorney-General on June 5, 2026, seeking to initiate plea discussions in relation to the charges before the court.
The notice was filed in the High Court (General Jurisdiction), Accra, under docket number CR/0529/2026, in the case of The Republic v. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako alias Wontumi, Thomas Antwi-Boasiako, and Wontumi Farms Limited.
The document identifies Bernard Antwi-Boasiako as the first accused person, Thomas Antwi-Boasiako as the second accused person, who is listed as being at large, and Wontumi Farms Limited as the third accused person.
In the notice, the Attorney-General’s Department informed the court that the first accused person, through his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, made a formal request for plea negotiations concerning the charges in the ongoing trial.
The filing was signed by Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, Deputy Attorney-General, and addressed to the Registrar of the High Court in Accra for service on the accused persons or their legal representatives.
Plea negotiations are a legal process under Ghanaian law that allows the prosecution and an accused person to discuss a possible resolution of criminal charges, subject to court approval and the requirements set out in the relevant legislation.
The court document does not disclose the specific charges involved in the case, nor does it indicate whether the Attorney-General has accepted the request or whether negotiations have formally commenced.
The matter remains before the High Court for further proceedings.
