AYA praises KATH doctors, urges gov’t to operationalize satellite hospitals; hails Otumfuo’s intervention
Share on WhatsApp

The Asante Youth Association (AYA) has commended medical doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for their restraint and professionalism following recent unrest that threatened healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Tweneboa Kodua and Vice President (Operations) Nana Oppong, AYA said the doctors “demonstrated patriotism, professionalism and a deep commitment to the welfare of the people” by helping restore calm and enabling uninterrupted services for thousands of patients who depend on KATH daily.

The association welcomed the continued advocacy by the doctors even after engagement by Manhyia for long-term solutions to systemic pressures on the regional health system.

AYA singled out the need to fast-track the operationalization of satellite hospitals at Afari, Sewua, Kumawu and other projects, saying these facilities are essential to easing the burden on KATH.

“We respectfully call on the Government of Ghana to honour and implement the concerns raised by the doctors,” the statement said.

“Now that calm has been restored, it is important that the government demonstrates the same level of commitment by ensuring these facilities are fully operational.”

AYA also affirmed its willingness to work with healthcare professionals, including the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association (KADA), civil society groups, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to push for completion and commissioning of the satellite hospitals.

The association urged that the health and well‑being of Ghanaians remain a national priority beyond partisan considerations.

The statement paid tribute to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his role in defusing tensions.

AYA described the Asantehene’s intervention as “timely” and said it reaffirmed his status as a unifying figure for Asanteman and the nation.

The association wished Otumfuo safe travels and God’s protection during his international engagements in Poland and Canada, and announced plans to organise a large welcome on his return.

“Upon his successful return, AYA will mobilise youth associations and allied groups across Asanteman for a mammoth and befitting welcome in recognition of his distinguished service,” the statement added.

The association concluded by calling for continued peace and collective efforts to build a stronger, healthier nation.
