The Afetsi Awoonor Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to maternal and child health with a targeted donation to nursing mothers and newborns at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital during Easter celebrations.
The gesture, part of the Foundation’s broader mission to foster community welfare, provided essential supplies including diapers, wipes, and detergents to alleviate the burdens of new mothers.
The donation event, held on Easter Monday, saw Adaku Ufere Awoonor, Co-Founder of the Foundation, personally engage with beneficiaries.
Drawing from her own experiences as a mother, she emphasized the significance of the support.
She said “Diapers were my headache as a mother. We want these mothers to have a soft start in their journey,” Her words resonated deeply, bridging the gap between donor and recipient through shared vulnerability.
The initiative aligns with the Foundation’s focus on bridging healthcare gaps, particularly in underserved regions, through practical interventions.
The hospital’s maternity ward buzzed with unscripted joy as mothers received the unexpected gifts. One beneficiary, cradling her newborn, fought back tears.
“I wasn’t expecting this today. It has truly lifted my spirit,” she shared.
The donations directly target preventable health risks, offering a buffer against infections linked to inadequate hygiene resources.
Beyond this Easter outreach, the Foundation has consistently championed rural healthcare, supplying medical equipment and consumables to Volta Region communities.
While the Easter event captured headlines, the Foundation’s year-round work tells a broader story. From installing solar-powered boreholes in water-scarce villages to funding youth-led startups and sponsoring football leagues that double as mentorship hubs, their model blends compassion with pragmatism.
Founded to empower vulnerable groups through education, skills training, and healthcare support, the Afetsi Awoonor Foundation has emerged as a key player in Ghana’s developmental landscape.
This latest effort at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital underscores the organization’s role in addressing immediate community needs while advancing long-term societal resilience.
