Savannah Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Imoro Seidu, has rejected attempts to use ethnicity to determine who can contest the party’s upcoming constituency executive elections in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba.
The chairman, popularly known as “Man Blessing”, said every eligible NDC member in the constituency has an equal right to pick a nomination form and contest, regardless of ethnic background.
He said the NDC would not allow ethnic considerations to dictate participation in its internal democratic processes.
Alhaji Imoro Seidu made the remarks on Friday, September 18, 2026, when he spoke to the media at his residence in Sawla after declaring his bid for another term as Regional Chairman.
He said he had already impressed upon the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency executives that no member should be prevented from contesting on ethnic grounds.
“I am the leader of the NDC in the Savannah Region, and when I met the constituency executives of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, I made it clear to them that each and everyone in the NDC in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency has the right to pick a nomination form and contest the constituency executive election because we are one people,” he said.
The chairman specifically dismissed suggestions of any ethnic conflict among the Brifor, Vagla and Gonja communities in the constituency.
“We don’t have a conflict between a Brifor, a Vagla or a Gonja, and so no one can say a Brifor has no right to pick a form to contest,” he stressed.
His comments come as the NDC prepares for constituency-level executive elections, with the party leadership facing the task of managing internal competition while maintaining unity ahead of future electoral contests.
Alhaji Imoro Seidu urged party executives and supporters to avoid statements and actions capable of inflaming ethnic tensions, insisting that the internal elections must be conducted fairly and peacefully.
He said the party’s strength in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and across the Savannah Region depended on members working together despite their different ethnic backgrounds.
The Regional Chairman expressed confidence that the internal elections would pass without major incidents.
“Insha Allah, the NDC elections would be conducted in the Savannah Region and there won’t be any problem,” he said.
