Mahama says credible polls predict NDC victory, accuses NPP of publishing fake polls without proper methodology

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, has arrived in the Ashanti Region for a five-day campaign tour ahead of the December 7 elections.

The former President received a rousing welcome on Saturday from NDC supporters and some prominent businessmen in the Ashanti Region who are backing his campaign activities.

Mr. Mahama’s delegation includes former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and former Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCO Nathan Kofi Boakye, among others.

The former President, who has already engaged with players in the creative arts sector and the clergy, is expected to meet traditional leaders and other professional bodies as part of his tour.

According to Asawase Member of Parliament Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed, former President Mahama after touring Ejura among other consistencies will tomorrow commence his campaign tour with a major health walk dubbed the “Victory Walk in Kumasi starting from Asawase.

” The event will take place at 7 a.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024, starting from the Aboabo Post Office in the Asawase Constituency and passing through Sawaba Junction, Anloga Junction, and Aful Nkwanta, before concluding at the Kumasi Jubilee Park, where he will address a rally.

The rally is expected to energize the party’s grassroots to intensify their campaign efforts and to reaffirm the NDC’s commitment to its 2024 election campaign manifesto and policies. The Ashanti Regional Chairman is therefore urging all NDC supporters in Kumasi to participate in the walk.

“This walk is not only for NDC supporters; anyone who wants change must join. We are extending an invitation to the general public, including various professional groups, to walk with former President Mahama for change,” he said.

Ahead of the December 7 election, the NDC, which considers the Ashanti Region a key battleground, is targeting at least 30% of the votes, out of its broader 35% target for the region. On the other hand, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which has consistently dominated the region’s electoral landscape with over 70% of the votes, including 43 out of 47 parliamentary seats, is determined to maintain its stronghold.

The intense competition has turned the Ashanti Region into a key battleground for the 2024 general elections.

The NDC is confident that if it crosses the 28% threshold in the region, it can form the next government by combining those votes with strong performances in other regions. Meanwhile, the NPP believes that securing over 80% of the regional vote will help them retain power for a third consecutive term.
