The Government of Ghana has announced an upward adjustment in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/26 crop season, increasing it to GH¢3,625 per bag or GH¢58,000 per tonne.
The revision, disclosed in a statement issued by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday, represents an increase of about GH¢400 per bag, equivalent to a 12.27 percent rise over the price of GH¢3,228.75 per bag announced in August.
The new rate takes effect from Friday, October 3, 2025.
According to the Ministry, the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders in the cocoa sector.
Margins, fees, and rates to all other stakeholders, including the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), remain unchanged.
Dr. Forson stressed that the adjustment is part of government’s continued efforts to ensure fair returns for farmers amid fluctuating global prices.
COCOBOD, he noted, will continue implementing interventions to support cocoa production and farmer welfare.
These include the supply of free fertilizers, insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides, and flower inducers.
The statement further revealed that COCOBOD is on course to launch a new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for the children of cocoa farmers in the 2026/27 academic year.
“Government remains committed to supporting the Ghana Cocoa Board to build a robust and resilient cocoa industry that provides sustainable and optimal benefits to all stakeholders,” the release said.
The revised price is pegged at 70 percent of the average Gross Free on Board (FoB) price of US$7,200 per tonne on the international market, reflecting government’s effort to cushion cocoa farmers and safeguard livelihoods.
