The legal battle over the funeral of highlife icon Daddy Lumba took a dramatic turn on Friday after the Accra High Court ordered the applicants in the family dispute to pay GH¢2 million by 2:00 p.m. today failing which the funeral will go ahead as planned on Saturday.
The court recalled the lawyers involved in the case and explained that the GH¢2 million payment is intended to cover any costs that may arise if the funeral is halted after preparations have already been made.

This fresh directive comes after the same court earlier granted an injunction restraining the family head, Kofi Owusu, from organising the burial and directing Transitions Funeral Home not to release the late musician’s body.
The injunction stemmed from disagreements between Daddy Lumba’s maternal family and the family head over who should lead the funeral arrangements and how funds should be managed.
The court had previously emphasised the need for proper consultation with the immediate family, consistent with Akan customs, and instructed the respondents to convene a stakeholder meeting within three weeks to agree on a new burial date.
The introduction of the GH¢2 million condition appears to be the court’s attempt to strike a balance between ensuring due process and avoiding unnecessary financial losses that could arise from last-minute changes to funeral plans.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, died on July 26, 2025, at age 60.
As one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians, his burial has drawn intense public interest, with the ongoing family dispute further heightening attention on his final rites.
