Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has emerged as the leading choice among NPP voters in the race for National Chairman, according to a new survey by Global InfoAnalytics.
The poll, released on August 20, 2026, places Mr Boadu ahead of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko in what is shaping up to be a competitive contest for the party’s top national executive position.
According to the survey, 27% of NPP voters prefer John Boadu as National Chairman, compared with 15% for Boakye Agyarko and 10% for Paul Afoko.
However, the race remains highly fluid, with 47% of respondents expressing no opinion on their preferred candidate. This means nearly half of NPP voters surveyed are yet to settle on a candidate, leaving a substantial pool of voters that could ultimately determine the outcome of the contest.
John Boadu also records the strongest favourability rating among the three potential chairmanship candidates. The survey gives him a 61% favourable rating and 12% unfavourable rating, producing a net approval rating of 49%.
Boakye Agyarko records a 50% favourable rating and 17% unfavourable rating, giving him a net approval of 34%, while Paul Afoko records 50% favourable and 18% unfavourable, translating into a 32% net approval rating.
The regional breakdown further strengthens John Boadu’s position in the race according to the survey.
He leads the named candidates in several regions, including Bono East, where he records 43%; Greater Accra, 38%; North East, 38%; Northern, 29%; Upper East, 41%; and Central Region, 27%.
Boakye Agyarko, however, remains competitive in a number of regions. He records 23% in Bono East, 22% in Greater Accra and 21% in the Central Region.
Paul Afoko’s strongest showing is in the Savannah Region, where he records 22%, followed by 19% in the North East Region.
The high proportion of respondents with no opinion is particularly significant in several regions, including Ashanti, where 71% are undecided, Oti and Upper West at 63% each, Western North at 60%, and Volta at 56%.
KODUA LEADS GENERAL SECRETARY RACE
In the contest for General Secretary, incumbent Justin Kodua Frimpong has established an even wider lead over his potential challengers.
The survey places Kodua at 36%, well ahead of Eugene Antwi at 10%, Sylvester Tetteh at 5% and Charles Dwamena at 3%.
But here too, a sizeable 46% of NPP voters expressed no opinion, suggesting that the contest remains open despite Kodua’s commanding advantage among respondents who have indicated a preference.
Kodua’s support is particularly strong in the Central Region, where he records 60%, followed by Greater Accra at 54%, Bono East at 44%, Upper East at 43%, Northern at 40%, Ahafo at 39% and North East at 39%.
Eugene Antwi’s strongest performance comes from Bono East, where he records 30%, while he attracts 18% in the Volta Region and 14% in Greater Accra.
TITUS GLOVER AHEAD IN NATIONAL ORGANISER RACE
Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover leads the National Organiser contest, although half of NPP voters surveyed remain undecided.
Mr Glover attracts 23% support, compared with 14% for Salam Mustapha, 8% for Alhaji Ismaela Ibrahim and 5% for Kwame A. Prempeh. Another 50% expressed no opinion.
The regional figures, however, point to a more competitive contest.
Titus Glover records his strongest support in the Northern Region at 35%. He also attracts 28% in the Volta Region and 27% each in Ahafo and Greater Accra.
Salam Mustapha performs strongly in the Oti Region, where he leads with 28%, as well as Upper West at 25% and Upper East at 24%.
Alhaji Ismaela Ibrahim records 28% in Bono, 23% in North East and 21% in Upper West, while Kwame A. Prempeh’s strongest showing is 21% in Bono East.
CHAIRMANSHIP CHOICE COULD INFLUENCE OTHER RACES
The survey also provides an indication of how preferences in the chairmanship contest could intersect with the General Secretary and National Organiser races.
Among voters who prefer John Boadu for National Chairman, 63% support Justin Kodua Frimpong for General Secretary. Kodua also attracts 53% among Boakye Agyarko supporters and 49% among Paul Afoko supporters.
Eugene Antwi attracts 21% among Agyarko supporters, 15% among Boadu supporters and 19% among Afoko supporters.
A similar pattern emerges in the National Organiser race.
Titus Glover is preferred by 43% of Boakye Agyarko supporters, 36% of John Boadu supporters and 34% of Paul Afoko supporters.
Salam Mustapha attracts 20% among Agyarko supporters, 24% among Boadu supporters and 31% among Afoko supporters.
The figures suggest that while the chairmanship race remains unsettled, Kodua and Glover currently enjoy support cutting across the camps of the three leading chairmanship contenders.
Large undecided vote leaves races open
The sizeable number of voters yet to express a preference remains one of the most significant findings of the poll. 47% are undecided in the chairmanship contest, 46% in the General Secretary race and 50% in the National Organiser contest.
The figures mean that while John Boadu, Justin Kodua Frimpong and Titus Glover currently lead their respective contests, none of the three races can be considered settled.
The Global InfoAnalytics poll was conducted through telephone interviews from August 10 to 12, 2026. It involved 2,557 respondents drawn from all 16 regions using probability random sampling with regional quota limits and the 2024 Electoral Commission register as the sample frame.
The survey reports a 99% confidence level and a margin of error of plus or minus 2.56 percentage points.
