The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has underscored the importance of research, innovation, and digital transformation in shaping the future development of West Africa.
Mr Debrah made the remarks during the inauguration of the Centre for West African Studies of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

In a statement shared on Facebook, the Chief of Staff said the newly established centre represents a shared commitment towards developing African-led solutions, strengthening strategic partnerships, and promoting knowledge-driven development.

According to him, the centre will serve as an important platform for research and collaboration aimed at addressing challenges and opportunities confronting the region.
“The newly inaugurated Center reflects a shared commitment to African-led solutions, strategic partnerships, and knowledge-driven development in addressing the challenges and opportunities of our time,” Mr Debrah stated.
He stressed that West Africa must move beyond simply participating in global development discussions and take a leading role in defining the future through innovation and knowledge creation.
“West Africa must not only participate in shaping the future, we must help define it,” he added.
Mr Debrah commended GIMPA, UESTC, and other partners involved in establishing the centre, describing the initiative as a significant step towards building institutions that promote learning, leadership development, and regional growth.
He said such partnerships will contribute to strengthening research capacity and nurturing future leaders capable of driving transformation across Africa.
“Together, we are building institutions that will advance knowledge, nurture leadership, and strengthen our region for generations to come,” he said.
The establishment of the Centre for West African Studies forms part of efforts to deepen academic cooperation and promote exchanges in research, technology, and innovation between Ghana and China.
