The Kristo Asafo Church has announced a press conference scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2025, to discuss what it describes as an orchestrated agenda by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, against former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The announcement, made through an official flyer, suggests that the event will expose alleged attempts by the NPP to undermine the former MP and her family business established by her father, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, the founder of Kristo Asafo and Kantanka Group which were targeted by the immediate past NPP government.
Sarah Adwoa Safo, a former Deputy Majority Leader and Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, faced a turbulent political career within the NPP, culminating in her removal from office and eventual loss of favor within the party.
Her prolonged absence from Parliament in 2022 due to her child sickness in abroad led to a heated debate within the NPP over her loyalty, eventually resulting in a decision to remove her from her legislative seat.
In recent months, tensions between Adwoa Safo and the NPP leadership have reportedly intensified, with claims that the party is systematically working against her political comeback and business interests associated with the Kristo Asafo mission.
The upcoming press conference is expected to shed light on these alleged moves and rally support for the former MP and also threaten the party’s general secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua to withdraw the letter which referred the former minister of state to the party’s disciplinary committee else the church membership will withdraw their loyalty to the party.
The situation has sparked a debate among political analysts, with some arguing that Adwoa Safo’s fallout with the NPP is part of internal power struggles ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Others believe it is an indication of a broader rift between the ruling party and influential figures within the Kristo Asafo church.
With the press conference set to take place in a few days, political observers are keenly watching how this development may impact the NPP’s relationship with Kristo Asafo and its large following, particularly in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
As of now, the NPP and its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, have not publicly responded to the allegations. It remains to be seen whether the party will issue an official statement or take steps to address the concerns raised by the Kristo Asafo leadership.
