Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of National First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), pledging to strengthen the party’s structures and help reposition it for victory in the 2028 general elections.
In a statement announcing his candidature, Nana B said his decision was driven by “gratitude and a deep sense of duty” after serving the party for 26 years in various leadership capacities at the polling station, constituency, regional and national levels.
He expressed confidence that his years of experience had equipped him with the skills needed to reconnect the party with its grassroots base and contribute to rebuilding the NPP ahead of the next general elections.
“The experience and lessons I have gained have prepared me to help strengthen our party structures, reconnect with our grassroots and contribute meaningfully to our collective mission of returning the New Patriotic Party to government in 2028,” he stated.
Nana B outlined an extensive record of service within the party. His political journey began at the polling station level, where he served as a polling station agent during the 2000 general elections before becoming polling station chairman in both the Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Oforikrom constituencies. He also served as a communications officer and constituency campaign team member.
At the regional and youth levels, he held several leadership positions, including President of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) at both the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
He also served on the Ashanti Regional Communications Team, the 2016 Ashanti Regional Campaign Team, as Director of Events and Programmes for the National Youth Wing, National Youth Organiser, and Vice Chairman of the International Young Democrat Union (IYDU).
His national party experience includes membership of the NPP National Communications Team, the 2020 Presidential Election Petition Legal Team, and the party’s 2020 and 2024 national campaign teams. He also currently serves on the National Executive Committee, National Council and National Steering Committee, and was Vice Chairman of the 2025 National Delegates Conference Planning Committee.
Nana B said his ambition is anchored on unity, determination and renewed commitment within the party.
He appealed to party executives, elders, patrons and members to support his bid, saying their prayers, guidance and encouragement would be crucial throughout the campaign.
“I respectfully and humbly seek your prayers, guidance and support as we embark on this important journey together,” he said.
The announcement formally places Nana B among the contenders expected to vie for one of the NPP’s top national executive positions as the party prepares for its next round of internal elections.
The National First Vice Chairman plays a key role in supporting the National Chairman in the administration and organisation of the party.
