Celebrated Ghanaian highlife musician K.K. Fosu has announced his intention to contest the 2028 parliamentary election as an independent candidate for the Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region.
Speaking in an interview on Accra based Asempa FM monitored by Kumasi Mail, the award-winning musician disclosed that he had initially planned to contest the 2024 parliamentary election but was forced to shelve his ambition after being involved in a road accident.
“I was prepared for the 2024 election. Unfortunately, I was involved in an accident, and I had to put the vision on hold. That is why I did not contest in 2024,” K.K. Fosu said.
The musician indicated that he remains committed to his political aspirations and is preparing for the 2028 contest. He also suggested that the incumbent Member of Parliament, Sammy Awuku, should be ready for a keenly contested election.
Asked whether he believed an independent candidate could win in Akuapem North, a constituency widely regarded as a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), K.K. Fosu expressed confidence in his chances.
In a light-hearted response, he remarked, “NPP agu,” an Akan expression implying that the party’s dominance has waned, before laughing.
His declaration adds to the growing list of personalities from Ghana’s creative arts industry expressing interest in elective politics ahead of the 2028 general election.
Several entertainers, including Captain Smart, have also publicly indicated their intention to seek parliamentary seats, setting the stage for what is expected to be an increasingly competitive electoral contest.
K.K. Fosu has not yet officially filed his nomination, as the Electoral Commission is yet to open nominations for the 2028 parliamentary elections.
His announcement, however, signals an early start to his campaign and highlights the increasing participation of figures from the entertainment industry in Ghanaian politics.
