A joint special monitoring and intelligence team led by Hajia Rashida Mahama, Head of monitoring in charge of all intering point in Ghana has intercepted three articulator trucks fully loaded with cooking oil suspected to be involved in a smuggling attempt.
According to authorities, the trucks, which were originally declared for export to Kojokrom in Ivory Coast, were surprisingly traced to Kumasi.

Officials noted that the truck trucking divise had been tampered with, and in one case, a cut and loosely hanging tarpaulin raised suspicions of diversion.
Each of the three trucks reportedly carried 2,129 dromes of cooking oil.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck drivers, in collaboration with the product owners, may have attempted to evade local taxes through false export declarations.

National Security operatives are currently offloading the cargo. The product owner is expected to pay the appropriate taxes and face penalties as stipulated by law.
Customs and National Security sources emphasize that the operation is part of an ongoing effort to curb tax evasion and ensure compliance with trade regulations at the country’s ports.
Further investigations are underway to identify all individuals connected to the smuggling attempt.
