The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed claims made by a group of individuals who held a press conference at Bantama Market on Tuesday, February 4, 2024.
The group, believed to be former NPP members who defected to Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change Alliance, accused the party’s 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of being responsible for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
In response, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP, Mr. Paul Kwabena Yandoh, stated that the individuals making these allegations are no longer recognized as party members.
He explained that their decision to campaign against the NPP and its flagbearer automatically terminated their membership.
“The NPP constitution is clear—any member who actively works against the party ceases to be part of it. These individuals campaigned for Alan Kyerematen in the 2024 elections, meaning they forfeited their status as NPP members. They have no authority to speak on behalf of the party, and their claims should be disregarded,” Yandoh said.
He further accused the group of attempting to create disunity and confusion within the NPP, describing their press conference as a calculated effort to mislead the public and weaken the party’s post-election reorganization.
“If they wish to rejoin the party, they must submit a formal application to the regional secretariat for consideration. Until then, they remain outsiders with no legitimate stake in NPP affairs,” he added.
The NPP in the Ashanti Region is urging party members and the general public to ignore the allegations, emphasizing that such tactics are designed to serve the interests of individuals with ulterior motives. The party remains focused on rebuilding and strengthening its structures for future electoral success.
