In response to a directive from the Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, to dismantle the notorious narcotics base known as “Thinker Island” in Kumasi, the Airport District Police Command has arrested a major suspect believed to be a key figure in the local drug trade.

The suspect, 39-year-old Adam Mohammed, was apprehended during a targeted police operation on Saturday night, May 10, 2025, at around 10 p.m. The arrest took place at Aboabo Number 1, specifically at the “Number One” Café, which police have identified as a major hotspot for narcotic distribution within the municipality.

Addressing the media at a press briefing in Kumasi, Ashanti Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, said the operation followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
During the raid, police seized a significant quantity of illegal substances and paraphernalia, including 520.3 grams of suspected narcotic drugs, 328 bottles of tramadol (80mg each), 11 sachets of a substance the suspect referred to as “kitchen drug,” 2 slabs of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp, 50 empty containers typically used for packaging narcotics, and GH¢66,950 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

ASP Ahianyo emphasized that the arrest marks a critical step in the police command’s ongoing efforts to crack down on drug trafficking in the region. He reaffirmed the police service’s commitment to executing the Interior Minister’s directive to restore safety and public order in drug-prone areas.

“The Ashanti Regional Police Command will continue to intensify operations in known drug hubs to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of our communities,” ASP Ahianyo stated.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be processed for court as investigations continue. The police assured the public that all evidence collected will be used in the legal proceedings and urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely information.
