The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), in collaboration with National Security officials, has successfully arrested six Indian nationals involved in illegal gold trading across two regions in Ghana.
Three suspects were apprehended in Enyinam, Eastern Region, while the other three were arrested in Adiembra, Ashanti Region.
The operation, led by National Security Coordinator DCOP Abdul Osman, resulted in the seizure of thousands of Ghanaian cedis, hundreds of gold bars, and money counting machines.

At a press briefing on May 14, 2025, at the National Security Secretariat in Accra, Prince Minkah, Media Relations Officer of GoldBod, stated that those arrested would face legal action.
He clarified that a first batch of foreign nationals arrested before the April 30 deadline would be deported rather than prosecuted, but the latest group would be prosecuted in court.
He explained “But the latest bust which has occurred, for them they will face the full rigours of the law. Per the arrest and what we got to know, with them were golds, money counting machines and some cedis as well and these things have been confiscated.

“For the second batch, they will go to court and face the law. This is a warning to every foreigner in Ghana, local gold trading is the sole reserve of the GoldBod,” Minkah emphasized.
The Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025, which came into effect on May 1, bans all foreigners and unauthorized individuals from trading in the local gold market. Traders must now apply to GoldBod to buy or off-take gold directly, ensuring tighter regulation of artisanal and small-scale gold mining.
