President John Dramani Mahama has donated relief items to residents displaced by devastating floods in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.

The floods, which affected several low-lying communities, particularly Hohoe Zongo and other riverside areas, have displaced more than 5,140 residents and damaged 412 homes across seven communities, according to preliminary data from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The relief items donated include bags of rice and maize, mattresses, mats, roofing sheets, tinned fish, cooking oil, sanitary pads, tissue paper, baby diapers and other essential supplies.

Mahama, who visited the affected communities in solidarity with residents, expressed sympathy to families who have lost their homes and belongings to the floods.
He said the increasing incidence of extreme and unpredictable weather patterns underscored the need for Ghana to strengthen climate adaptation measures and invest in resilient infrastructure to protect vulnerable communities.
The President’s wife, Lordina Mahama, also extended her sympathies to the affected families.

The Lordina Foundation’s Hohoe Adabraka Hospital, which was previously renovated, expanded and equipped by the foundation, was not affected by the floodwaters and remains operational.
Mahama pledged continued support for affected residents as they work to recover and rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
