Presidential Adviser and Special Aide to President John Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari has outlined the administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a dynamic and appealing sector for young Ghanaians.
In an interview with WoeZorTV monitored by Kumasimail, Mogtari emphasized that the government’s goal is to “make agriculture sexier and more attractive as an engaging way for young people to build something for themselves.”
She painted a vision of a future where Ghana achieves food sufficiency, security, and becomes a major food exporter.
“Imagine a future where Ghana is food sufficient, food secure, and able to export. I’m sure that this will make everyone happy,” Mogtari stated.
Highlighting President Mahama’s personal connection to farming—having grown up on a farm and maintaining a strong interest in agriculture—she noted that his patience and commitment are central to this agenda. “If we can embrace this endeavor, we can do better for our people and as a country,” she said.
Mogtari also addressed the paradox of Ghana’s reliance on food imports despite its abundant land and favorable climate.
“We even owe countries in food supplies. Why should that happen when we are blessed with so much land and good rain patterns?” she asked adding
She further added “one of the biggest pivots of President John Mahama’s campaign was that he literally embraced the whole notion of agriculture as an opportunity for jobs and driving imports down.”
