Fifteen men have been arrested by the Ashanti regional branch of the National Security personnel for allegedly engaging in sand-winning activities that are disrupting construction works on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.
The arrests, which took place on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, followed an intelligence-led operation in the Sewua-Donyina-Appiadu enclave, where the alleged activities are said to be obstructing construction and damaging sections of the road.
Six vehicles, including trucks and a wheel loader, were also impounded during the operation as authorities intensified efforts to protect the strategic road project from activities that could undermine its progress.
An Assistant Liaison Officer, Ivan Bilson Yeboah, said the suspects had been transported to the National Security headquarters in Accra, where they would be held for further investigations.
He explained that the alleged sand-winning activities posed a threat to the smooth execution of the expressway project, raising concerns about their impact on construction works and the integrity of sections of the road.
Mr. Yeboah stressed that National Security would sustain its enforcement efforts against individuals whose activities threaten major government infrastructure projects in the region.
He warned that anyone found culpable after investigations would face the full rigours of the law, adding that the action was intended to deter others from engaging in similar activities.
The arrests highlight growing enforcement efforts to prevent unauthorised activities from interfering with the construction of major road infrastructure in the Ashanti Region.
Further details on the suspects and the specific charges, if any, had not been provided at the time of reporting.
