Tamale Mayor Abubakari Adam Takoro has warned staff of the Judicial Service against dishonesty, misconduct and abuse of office, saying such conduct could erode public confidence in Ghana’s justice system.
He urged members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) to uphold integrity, professionalism, impartiality and confidentiality in the discharge of their duties.
The Mayor made the call on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, when he delivered a welcome address on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, at the Second Quadrennial Delegates Conference of JUSAG at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Conference Hall in Tamale.
He said the conduct of individual staff members could affect public perception of the Judicial Service because citizens often viewed the institution as a single entity, regardless of the roles played by its various personnel.
“Acts of dishonesty, misconduct or abuse of office by individual staff members could undermine public confidence in the Judicial Service and damage the reputation of an institution that had taken decades to build,” he cautioned.
Mr Takoro said effective justice delivery depended not only on judges and magistrates but also on court administrators, registrars, interpreters, clerical officers, accountants, bailiffs, process servers, drivers, security personnel, IT officers and other support staff.
He urged JUSAG members to use the conference to critically examine challenges confronting the Association and the Judicial Service, particularly issues of staff welfare, professional development and institutional effectiveness.
While acknowledging staff welfare as a core concern of JUSAG, the Mayor said such interests must be pursued alongside the broader objective of improving justice delivery and strengthening public confidence in the institution.
He said the Judiciary remained central to Ghana’s constitutional democracy through the protection of fundamental rights, enforcement and interpretation of laws, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
Mr Takoro expressed confidence that the conference would produce constructive decisions to strengthen collaboration among JUSAG, Judicial Service management, organised labour and other stakeholders and contribute to a more efficient and citizen-focused justice delivery system.
