Eric Adjei, the Acting CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has publicly questioned the continued leadership of the Ghana Airport Company CEO, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.
Adjei’s concerns stem from allegations that the CEO actively supported the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2024 election campaign, while seemingly ignoring the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview with Asempa FM, monitored by Kumasimail.com, Adjei pointed out that during his own campaign efforts for the NDC for election 2024, the Airport Company CEO, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, was noticeably absent.
But, Adjei alleged that the Ghana Airport Company CEO, was actively involved in supporting the New Patriotic Party’s candidate.
He said “When I was campaigning for my party, the Chief Executive Officer of the airport company was not involved, but at that time, he was campaigning for the NPP. Today she is still in her position.”
Eric Adjei also criticized the CEO for not issuing a statement regarding false allegations made by Rev. Ntim, which he believes tarnished the image of President Mahama.
He emphasized “the things that tarnish President Mahama’s good image how they hurt me, Eric Adjei do not hurt her in the same way. Why didn’t she issue a statement about the false allegations made by Rev. Ntim? Or Were they true?”, he asked.
He questioned whether the CEO’s silence was a deliberate attempt to benefit the NPP by allowing these allegations to go unchallenged.
“was she doing the bidding of the NPP because if we are disgraced, the NPP will benefit? Was that what she was doing at the time”, he quizzes.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has firmly denied allegations that two flights which landed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) were involved in drug trafficking.
The claims, made by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee and MP for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, suggested that the flights carried illegal substances.
However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 8, GACL categorically rejected the assertions, citing the outcome of thorough investigations.
Again, Adjei highlighted recent controversies surrounding the Airport Company, including an apology for not allowing passengers to enter, and wondered why the CEO has not faced consequences for these incidents.
“So, what is really happening there? Look at their apology letter regarding the incident where they failed to open their main door for arrival passengers to access. Do you think that if one of our own were the head of that institution, we couldn’t call them to order?”.
He added “Why is it that within three months, the Ghana Airport Company has been in the news for negative reasons? That’s my problem”.
Passengers arriving at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on the morning of Monday, April 7, 2025, were met with unexpected frustration when they found themselves stranded outside the domestic arrival terminal due to a locked door—an incident that has prompted a formal apology from the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
In a statement issued later that day, GACL acknowledged the lapse, expressing regret over the situation and extending an unreserved apology to those affected.
The affected travellers, who had flown in from Kumasi aboard Passion Air Flight 143, landed at approximately 7:56 a.m. only to discover that the main arrival gate at Terminal 2 was locked, preventing them from accessing the arrival hall
He expressed frustration over the CEO’s continued presence in the role, suggesting it reflects poorly on the government.
“What has that woman done to justify her continued occupation of that position, and why is she embarrassing the government”, he fumes.
