Seventeen thousand, two hundred and fifty exercise books have been donated to support pupils in needy and underserved schools across the Upper East Region.
The books, donated by the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), were handed over by the Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, to the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for distribution to beneficiary schools.
Mr. Atanga said the donation would help address a basic but often overlooked barrier to education, particularly for children from poor households who struggle to afford essential learning materials.
He noted that some children have been unable to attend school because their parents or guardians could not afford to buy exercise books.
The Minister said although an exercise book might appear insignificant, its absence could have serious consequences for children from disadvantaged families.
He pledged to monitor the distribution of the books to ensure they reach the schools and pupils for whom they were intended.
Mr. Atanga expressed concern about instances where donated educational materials remain in storage instead of being distributed and said he would ensure the exercise books do not suffer the same fate.
He thanked NALAG for the donation and said providing basic learning materials was essential to helping children from disadvantaged communities remain in school and participate effectively in learning.
