A joint security operation led by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in collaboration with National Security and the Ghana Police Service, has resulted in the arrest of 48 suspected cybercrime operatives in the Dawhenya area of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.
The arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led nighttime operation targeting what authorities describe as a major cybercrime hub.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, confirmed the development in a post on X on Tuesday.
According to the Minister, preliminary interrogation suggests that the suspects—46 males and two females—are believed to be Nigerian nationals.
They are suspected to be involved in a range of cyber-related criminal activities, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illicit online gold trading.
Security operatives retrieved several items during the operation, including 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, one Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers, which are believed to have been used in facilitating the alleged crimes.
Mr. George said the operation underscores the government’s commitment to dismantling organised cybercrime networks operating within Ghana’s digital space.
“We are committed to carrying out intelligence-led surgical strikes against these crime syndicates to ensure that we rid our cyber ecosystem of these criminals,” he stated, adding that while Ghana remains open to individuals engaged in legitimate business, it will be “a hostile domain for cyber criminals.”
The Minister commended the professionalism of the security personnel involved, describing their conduct as consistent with the global standards for which Ghana’s security services are recognised.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to strengthen cybersecurity enforcement and protect the country’s digital economy, extending festive goodwill to the public while calling for vigilance against cybercrime.
Investigations into the activities of the suspects are ongoing, and further actions are expected as security agencies deepen their efforts to curb cyber-enabled crimes nationwide.
