Accra Academy has taken swift action against students involved in a recent bullying incident captured in a viral video.
The school management confirmed in a statement that the main perpetrator, seen wielding a machete and flogging a fellow student, has been handed over to the police for further interrogation.
The disturbing footage, which surfaced on social media, caused alarm among parents and the general public. According to the school, the incident occurred on January 17, 2024, but was not reported by the victims until the video gained traction online.
“We want to assure the public that we take this matter very seriously. As soon as the video came to our attention, we launched an investigation to address the situation,” the statement read.
Management disclosed that all students involved have been identified, and their parents have been contacted. The students, all day scholars, have been asked to stay away from school pending further investigations.
The alleged perpetrators have been named as Shadad Aliu (alias Kester), Haleem Jibril (alias Chopper), Ahmed Dauda (alias Foreigner), and Richard Ninsin (alias Poisonous), all in Form Three. The victims include Form One student Dominic Awuku Adjei and Form One Science students Samuel Usher, Kingsford Quayson, and Stephen Oteng.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the machete used in the act was brought from home and not obtained from the school premises.
The school’s disciplinary committee is currently investigating the matter, and all stakeholders will be updated on the outcome.
