President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned newly sworn-in ministers to uphold humility and responsibility in their roles, emphasizing that government resources must not be misused for personal luxury.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for ministers approved by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, President Mahama urged the appointees to serve with modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people.
“There will be no room for arrogance and pomposity in this government. The resources you will be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office. They are not to be wasted on opulence and extravagance,” he stated.
Ban on Non-Essential Foreign Travel
As part of efforts to cut down government expenditure, the President announced an immediate ban on non-essential foreign travel for appointees.
He instructed that any travel deemed necessary must first be approved by the Office of the Chief of Staff.
“All essential travels must be undertaken in modesty—no first-class flights,” he emphasized.
The directive aligns with the government’s broader efforts to ensure fiscal discipline and accountability in public service.
Commitment to Prudent Governance
President Mahama, who previously served as Chief of Staff, reminded ministers of the responsibility that comes with their positions.
He stressed that their mandate is to serve the interests of Ghanaians and not indulge in excessive spending.
