The Asante Akim Central Municipality recorded no maternal deaths in the year 2024.
The Municipal Health Director Delphine Gbogblovor made this known in an interview at the sidelines of an annual health review meeting.
She attributed this medical success to effective measures put in place after a painstaking research into the causes of the increase in maternal deaths in the previous years.
” We are happy to report that those measures we put in place are bearing fruits now. It is refreshing to note that our Municipality did not record any issues of maternal mortality, and we are all proud of that. “
She pointed out that they earlier identified that most pregnant women do not seek antenatal care at the early stages of pregnancy but wait till 6-7 months.
This affected their health and that of the children, resulting in the loss of the mother or the child.
Miss Gbogblovor hinted that the Directorate will not rest on their oars but will continue to do more sensitizations to drum home the message of early antenatal care.
Challenges
Revealing the challenges in accessing medical care in the Municipality, Dr. Lord Loglo, the Medical Superintendent of the Asante Akim Central Municipal Hospital said, the5 deteriorating nature of the road linking the health facility has affected access to medical care, especially during emergency situations.
He again said the hospital’s faulty generator coupled with the sporadic supply of electricity have been a major challenge to the hospital.
He said attempts to put it in good shape have proven futile calling on government to intervene.
